The Legal Services of New Jersey Hurricane Sandy Legal Assistance Hotline is for New Jersey residents with civil legal problems. To those who qualify, our services are FREE.

We can provide you with advice and other help in matters involving :

• Unemployment Benefits
• Welfare Benefits
• School Services for Displaced Children
• Document Replacement
• Income Tax Extensions and Abatements
• Other civil legal problems related to the storm


You should complete this application if you are a New Jersey resident with a legal question or problem, and you were affected by Hurricane Sandy. LSNJ will ask questions about your legal problem and how it relates to Hurricane Sandy. In order to provide the most appropriate services you will also be asked about your financial resources and household size, assets and expenses. LSNJ represents  immigrants and can provide advice on immigrant related issues.

How long will this take and what happens after you submit an application?

It should take you only 5 to 7 minutes to answer all of the questions. Once you have submitted your application, you will receive a response within 24 to 48 hours. If you can’t wait that long or need more immediate assistance, for example you have a court date, or you need to move from your current living situation right away and are not sure where you will be, you should contact our statewide Hurricane Sandy Legal Assistance Hotline at 1-888-222-5765. The Hotline is open Monday through Friday from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. You may experience a wait, but someone will answer your call.
